How the Store Works
Last updated: May 17, 2026
Welcome to Penelope Luz — an indie nail polish brand produced in Brazil and sold in the United States by PENELOPE LUZ INDIE BRAND, LLC.
Because we are just beginning our US expansion, we do not yet hold inventory in the United States. We make your polish after you order, ship it as part of a monthly batch to the US, and deliver it to you domestically via USPS. This page explains the full cycle so you know exactly what to expect.
The monthly cycle at a glance
| Days of the month | What's happening |
|---|---|
| 1 – 15 | Ordering window — store is open, you can place orders |
| 16 – 18 | Production — your polish is being made to order |
| 18 – 25 | International shipping — your order is part of a single batch to our US dispatch point, clearing customs along the way |
| 25 – end of month | Domestic shipping — your order ships to you via USPS |
| Next month, day 1 | Cycle starts again |
Step-by-step
1. Ordering window (days 1 – 15)
You place your order and pay in full at checkout (product + applicable sales tax + domestic USPS shipping). This is the only time during the month when checkout is open.
You can cancel a pre-order any time before day 16 (US Central time). See Refund & Returns Policy.
2. Production (days 16 – 18)
After the ordering window closes, we produce your bottles at our studio — the same operation behind the brand for more than 10 years.
This is why the store appears closed on day 16. We are not gone — we are making your order.
3. International batch shipping (days 18 – 25)
All orders from the month are bundled into a single international shipment to our US receiving point. We use FedEx for this leg, which also handles customs clearance.
This is the most variable part of the cycle. Carrier and customs delays can happen and are outside our control. We monitor the batch closely.
The cost of this international leg, including all import duties and customs fees, is already included in the price you pay for the polish. You will never receive a customs invoice from us or from the carrier.
4. Domestic shipping (day 25 – end of month)
Once the batch arrives in the United States, our US representative picks each order and ships it to you individually via USPS from our US dispatch point in Mobile, Alabama.
You receive a USPS tracking number by email when your order ships.
Expected arrival: Orders placed during days 1 – 15 are typically expected to arrive in the early part of the following calendar month. Timing is not guaranteed because customs and carriers can delay any batch.
Why are you "closed" half the month?
Because we ship in monthly batches, the store can only accept new orders during the ordering window (days 1 – 15). Outside that window, we are producing, shipping, or delivering the prior month's batch.
If you arrive on day 20 and the store appears closed, your previous order — if you placed one — is being made or is on its way to you. The store will reopen on the 1st of the next month.
What if the international batch is delayed or lost?
If the batch is delayed beyond expected timing, we will email all affected customers with an updated estimate.
If FedEx officially reports the batch as lost, we will produce and ship a replacement batch. There is no extra cost to you.
Where we ship to
We currently ship only to addresses in the contiguous United States that can be reached by USPS ground / land delivery. See Shipping Policy for the full list of excluded destinations and details.
